New visit on Palmarola Island by project staff

7 February 2017

On 30 and 31 January project staff carried out two new visits on Palmarola Island with the support of the Municipality of Ponza. The objectives were to obtain further data for the elaboration of the plan for rat eradication, and to carry out further counts on the population of wild goats living on the island. Several species were observed during the visit, including at least two pairs of peregrine falcon, several European shags and many goats. It was also possible to observe how goats are inducing a severe impact on native vegetation, and consequently, on soil stability.
