Rat eradication will benefit shearwaters as well as other animals living on the Ponziane islands. For this reason, a group of experts from the University of Siena, the Natural History Museum of Florence, and the National Research Council have been monitoring the populations of molluscs, insects and other invertebrates in Ponza, Palmarola, Ventotene and Santo Stefano since 2017. They have recently carried out a long and accurate post-operam survey (that is, after rat eradication) and are planning a second sampling for September 2019.
